Hello, could you please introduce yourself?
I am KhooKG, currently working as a freelance project designer in graphic and motion design, and I am also fond of character design and 3D art.
I created “K49ART” as a virtual 3D artist identity. Most of my creative inspirations come from my daily observations or dreams, and I want to create a series of experimental and symbolic visuals that are different from my previous design style.
How did you get into art?
As a designer, I have always been helping others to solve their problems. Over time, I slowly lose the passion for creation and it really makes me tired. So I want to change the runway to create different works, but it is also a kind of self-fulfillment!
Growing up, what incidents or experiences have impressed you the most? Have these special moments influenced your art creation?
Ash Thorp, whose works range from graphic design, motion graphics to illustration, is one of my favorite artists. In 2015, he released the motion picture of FITC TOKYO, which inspired my imagination about graphic and motion design when I was just starting my career as a designer. At that time, I couldn’t even imagine how someone could play with these visual elements so well, it was really awesome.
How did you become an NFT artist? What do you think about NFT art?
As a project-based designer, sometimes my income is not very stable. Besides taking cases or invest in cryptocurrency, I want to increase my passive income to experience the feeling of “waking up and I just get lots of money”. Therefore, around the middle of last year, I was thinking about whether there were some places in the cryptocurrency world that could realize my creations in the form of auction sites. So I started to look into some information and found this cool thing “NFT art transaction platform”. At the same time, some foreign opinion leaders said that NFT art would be the next hot spot in the cryptocurrency world in the second half of the year, so I started to study these platforms.
To me, NFT art is a great product. Although many people feel pessimistic about this new thing, it’s easier for artists to make profits from the market to support themselves and have the motivation to continue creating as well as redistributing the hot money in the market, which I think is a good thing.
Tell us about your upcoming NFT drop and what inspired you?
The series “Good Old Days” is inspired by the old apartments that we are most familiar with and can see everywhere in our lives. When I was young and ignorant, I always thought that the cityscape of alleys in Taiwan was ugly, with too many external air-conditioners, burglar-proof iron windows, and piles of debris, all of which seriously affected the cityscape. But in fact, with careful observation, you can still find some fascinating small details. For example, some of the early iron windows incorporated landscapes to show the unique aesthetics of the workers at that time, and some of the private houses used flower tiles to pave the walls. I think the use of these details is quite interesting.
Therefore, I combined the classic elements of Taiwan, such as tiles and window grilles, with this creation and used different arrangements of that to make it unique.
When a viewer does not know you at all, what kind of “first impression” would you hope to give?
As long as they feel it’s “Cool”.
What are some of the past accomplishments you are most proud of?
So far, I have sold four NFT artworks, which may not be a lot for other artists, but to me, it means I have been recognized by some people in the market.
What’s next for you?
For the time being, I don’t have grand ambitions such as conquering the NFT art market. Maybe I would aim at the designer toys that I’ve always loved in the past or set up a brand that can have physical figures or present them in the form of virtual characters if I have that chance. And then if the virtual space is mature in the future, we can also put them on display, which should be an interesting development.
